Reddit CPO Announces New Features:

Improved Translations, Moderation Tools, and Dev Tools

Reddit's Chief Product Officer, Pali Baht, announced the platform's commitment to enhancing user experience following its IPO in 2023. The product roadmap focuses on AI-driven features, including faster loading times, expanded tools for moderators and developers, and AI-assisted language translation

Baht highlights the importance of AI in the platform's development: "The IPO was a significant achievement, but our primary concern is to create for our users." The new features aim to cater to Reddit's diverse user base by enabling nuanced language translations, allowing users to engage in their native languages

AI also plays a crucial role in enhancing the moderator experience on Reddit. Recent updates include keyword highlighting features to aid moderators in identifying potentially inappropriate content and tools to manage influxes of new members. Baht revealed that Reddit plans to expand on these updates with additional AI-driven tools, such as an LLM trained on moderators' past decisions and actions

In 2023, Reddit faced backlash from users when it changed its API pricing structure, potentially impacting popular third-party Reddit apps with substantial bills. Although the controversy has subsided, Reddit is now encouraging developers to build directly on the platform, without financial compensation. Baht hinted that this policy could change in the future.
