Reddit users will soon notice AI-generated summaries at the top of search results.

Reddit co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman stated on Tuesday's earnings call that the firm intends to explore AI-powered search result pages to "summarize and recommend content." He said this will allow users to "dive deeper" into material and discover new Reddit groups.

Huffman noted that Reddit will power the functionality with a combination of first- and third-party technology. The company plans to begin the experiment later this year.

Those who have been following the company's recent projects are likely expecting an AI-powered search function to be on Reddit's radar. In May, Reddit announced a collaboration with OpenAI, allowing the firm to use OpenAI's vast language models to develop AI-powered features for Redditors and mods. The agreement also allows OpenAI to use the social network's data. Reddit reached a similar agreement with Google earlier this year.

AI was a common topic on today's call. Huffman also praised the success of Reddit's AI-powered language translation tool, claiming that France is one of the "fastest growing countries." The company is also beginning to develop the translation feature to include German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Today marked Reddit's second quarterly earnings report since going public. For the second quarter, the firm claimed 342.3 million weekly active users, up 57% from the previous year. Revenue grew to $281.2 million, exceeding Wall Street expectations of $253.8 million.
